The villa "Eguzki Jaia" was built in 1912 and designed by the architect Mario Camiña, a key figure of modernist architecture of the early twentieth century. In 2007 it was declared a Monument and included in the General Heritage Inventory of the Basque Government. It owes its name to a discussion, about where the sun rose, that arose on the day of its inauguration. The debate was resolved by prolonging the party until dawn, to check the sunrise. Hence its name "Eguzki Jaia" (festival of the sun). This building stands out for its design of elegant geometric lines, the roof of multiple steeply sloping skirts with flat tile, the vertical shapes with triangular finials covered with geometric shapes in blue, and its windows, with Venetian wooden shutters in red. The house presents an unusual layout for the time. There is a ground floor, where there is the kitchen, the pantry and other rooms, in the first are the living rooms and the dining room, in the second the main rooms, and in the lower cover, different rooms and a chapel, where formerly the patron saint festivities of the town began with a mass. The roof has been completely renovated in 2009, the rest of the house needs a comprehensive reform. The village called "Eguzki Jaia" is located in the municipality of Ea, in a rural environment of natural spaces next to the Cantabrian Sea. The house occupies the center of a flat plot on a cliff in the neighborhood of Bedarona, being a source of inspiration for artists such as Unamuno, who paid homage to the coast of Bedarona in his letters, or Gabriel Aresti, who dedicated his poem "Enaden Begiak" to him. Ea celebrates since 2003 a poetry days in homage to Gabriel Aresti and the villa "Eguzki Jaia" and its idyllic surroundings, have sometimes been the place chosen to celebrate these days of poetry. And it is that Ea, is the ideal place for lovers of the authentic, the simple and the natural. A beautiful urban area, vertebrated by the estuary with stone bridges as a hallmark of the town, a beach with the International Environmental Quality certificate. The legacy of nature and the historical richness of this Biscayan town are shown in a living cultural heritage. In addition, the gastronomic offer offered by its bars and restaurants along its cobbled streets, encourage both inhabitants and visitors, to enjoy this beautiful town.
